back to our travels

  • we had one more adventure this summer that fell a couple of days after we got home from the east coast. three days was just enough time to rest, do laundry, clean up the house a bit, repack and jump in the car for a week long trip out to see my parents. we knew we were cutting it close to the first day of school, but found as soon as we arrived that the last minute trip was well worth it. despite car trouble on the way out, we had such a great time! we spent the week eating great food as many times as we could out on the deck thanks to the amazing weather, relaxing, playing with all my old toys (my mom has done a great job saving the things that were important to me as a kid), going to museums, doing some school shopping, taking the train to spend a day with my older sister, brother-in-law and their kids, and of course having nightly dances in our bedroom with morfar to "wooly bully" by Sam The Sham And The Pharaohs played on a vintage portable record player! i also made it my mission to write to doug as many days of the week that i could, being that he had to stay behind to work and care for the dog. that time alone, sitting in my old room, writing while watching the rain outside my window created some of my favorite memories during the visit - just like the old days... all in all, the week was just perfect.

Sounds wonderful - I love that you wrote letters to Doug, so beautiful. Almost nostalgic in this day and age....
