snow and silence

i'm going to start avoiding machines more over my weekends i think. i blushed after i suggested to doug that we should try not using electricity some saturdays (aside from the refrigerator and freezer - not cool with wasting/rotting our food), but of course the mountain man said he'd totally be up for it. the input from the world can really overwhelm me - pulling the plug can be so healthy. what can't wait until monday, anyway?

There is something so peaceful about these photos. I remember growing up we had a small cabin in the mountains....real rustic Norwegian cabin with outhouse, no electricity, wood-burning stove and we had to get water from a local stream. It was really liberating to go there and not have the opportunity to watch TV...pulling the plug and being away from "it all". Kudos to you (now feeling slightly guilty that I'm watching Sex-and-the-city re-run-marathon on TV ;)

marianne, a rustic cabin sounds like a perfect way to spend some quiet time away from it all! oh, and the fact that it's in norway doesn't hurt, of course. sounds like a dream.

i LOVE tv too, and sometimes there's just no better way to unwind than to put on a dvd set of your favorite show. i would hate to make anyone feel bad about watching tv, because personally, i don't like to be preached at. i've always known that i'm a entertainment junkie, and i've just been feeling like i zone out a little too much lately and i'd like to cut that back. i waste away my free time looking for distraction online or on tv instead of even just sitting quietly.

I love these pictures - there's nothing like the quiet of a snow day. I miss springtime snowstorms.
